Trisha and Joey’s story starts with a love of music, a concert in Baltimore, and a single lyric — “Today is better than any day that’s come before.”
Their first date wasn’t in a fancy, well-appointed restaurant with flowers or candles… there was no bistro dinner followed by a romantic comedy at the local movie theatre. And, there certainly were no glasses of wine at a classy, upscale lounge (they were under 21 at the time).
In fact, it was quite the opposite. Over eight years ago, Joey and Trisha had their first date with fifty other concertgoers in a dimly lit, low-ceilinged, overly packed punk-rock music club in downtown Baltimore, Maryland. It wasn’t glamorous. It wasn’t chic. But it was perfect.
Music has a way of bringing people together, and in this case, that single concert sparked a relationship that could last a lifetime. After that first date, they spent the next five and a half years in a long-term relationship. Trisha went to school in Saratoga Springs, NY — ironically a location that Joey’s family visits every year during the summer and Joey went to school in Baltimore. During those five and a half years they visited each other regularly, growing closer together, building their relationship, but at the same time learning how to grow up as individuals. After all, they were just “college kids” with a lot of growing up to do.
After Joey finished his Ph.D., he moved to Connecticut to be with Trisha as she started her new job. The transition to living under one roof was natural and seamless as if this was how it was always supposed to be. They got engaged after two years living together. And just like their first date, the engagement included music and a playlist of all their love songs through the years. That day, above all else, was better than any day that’s come before. And their wedding day was just as special!
