Briana and Caleb were set on having a vintage themed engagement session based all around Briana’s love of a time where love letters told the stories of two souls that belonged only to each other. Caleb swears that Briana is an “old soul” born in the wrong decade and their engagement session fit that perfectly.
Briana had originally purchased the vintage lace tea-length dress with the intention of wearing it to her bridal shower. But, after learning that the “Million Dollar/Grand Western Staircase” wasn’t open for her and Caleb’s wedding weekend, she got an idea. What if they did a vintage inspired wedding shoot. It would look like something from the era she adored and the dress was the perfect fit to make it all come together! So, she researched vintage hairstyles and make up, dressed Caleb up in a suit and tie, and their vintage wedding shoot became a reality!
In the words of Briana: “The staircase is absolutely amazing! The lighting and details have visitors in awe of its beauty. You can’t find a more perfect place to have unique photos! The staircase is the perfect backdrop to a vintage session.”
If you had one piece of advice for other brides preparing for their engagement session what would it be?
I have found myself trying to follow this one piece of advice, and have found it difficult at times, but believe it is extremely important when planning your special day. Remember, the day is about you and your fiancé. If you two weren’t spending the rest of your lives together, none of this would be happening. Everyone will have input on what they think you should do for your special day. Make sure you do what makes you happy and the vision you have for your wedding day. If you focus on everyone else and what their vision and wants are, the day doesn’t reflect you and the love you have for each other. You only have this moment once, so plan it exactly how you picture it, and enjoy every second of the process. Take time to reflect on how amazing it all is, take a deep breath, and smile.
Briana and Caleb were an absolute joy to work with, we loved their creative and unique style and we can hardly wait for the wedding day! The couple had this to say about working with us (and it made my heart melt!):
Makayla made our session extremely comfortable, relaxing and fun! Having your photo taken can be intimidating, but Makayla worked to capture our personalities and best angles ( which Caleb says is every angle of his). This is your time to shine, make memories and enjoy the moment! Makayla worked with us to create the vision we had for our vintage inspired engagement session and we couldn’t be happier. We gave her full creative control because we trust her. There was even a political protest on the staircase as we were having our photos taken, and Makayla was extremely professional and worked around the chaos. That is exactly why we chose The Harris Company. We knew, from the moment we talked to Makayla, that she was the real deal. She made us laugh, smile and live in the moment. Everything you could want in a photographer, she is.
