Reflecting on Our 2021 Wedding Season

February 4, 2022

With a new year, we must (of course) reflect. But before we can truly launch ourselves forward in 2022, we must identify all that we’re taking with us from the last year—all the things we’ve learned. And at The Harris Company, we’ve learned so, so much, worked with so many wonderful couples and changed our mentality as photographers.

Appreciating the “New Normal”

In 2021, we can all agree that we came back to a new kind of life—a “new normal.” We returned to some of the things we loved, and we missed—football games, birthday parties, weddings—but things were different. Different not just in the way of new rules and expectations, but in the way of the planning and the motivations behind these weddings. The mentality of the couples had shifted. Priorities had changed. There was less focus on adhering to tradition and more simply on gathering loved ones together. It was wonderful to be able to capture families and friends reuniting to celebrate such an important occasion—an occasion that so many of our couples had to postpone the previous year.

It was obvious to us that couples now had a deeper appreciation of what was important. Overall, they seemed less concerned about tiny details and more focused on the experience of being with friends and family. Time spent apart seemed to truly alter everyone’s perspective.

For The Harris Company, the “new normal” brought new challenges, but also new ways of looking at the ever-evolving world around us. The way we celebrated life’s big events changed (it had to), so the way we photographed those moments changed, as well.

But one thing remained: there was still much cause for celebration.
