Stuck at home? Should we buy sweatpants and skincare or makeup and wedding dresses? Hopefully, the answer is BOTH!
Hi loves! Carina from Carina Scott Makeup here! I don’t know about you but spending a lot of time at home made me even more obsessed with my skincare regime and made me appreciate my makeup quick-fixes. It was refreshing to go a few days without any makeup and let my skin breathe a bit but, as a Makeup Artist, I totally admit that this is hard for me to do. We are all looking forwards to a new year of weddings so here’s some advice from me to you for preparing to look your best!
I always tell my brides, the makeup on your wedding day will only look as good as the canvas you’re placing it on- your skin! Making sure your skin is prepped and hydrated is something I focus on for every client, but the prep work should start months before your big day.
You know the basics, clean your face nightly and make sure you remove all traces of makeup. Be sure your using products that work with your skin type. Make sure you are wearing a foundation that works with your skin tone. Now let’s dig a little deeper for all the anticipating Brides (and Grooms!) to keep your skin and makeup regimen on point. It Is super important to make sure your paying attention to what your skin needs.
I always recommend seeing an esthetician before your big day to really map out your skincare goals and start a facial program you can adhere to before your wedding day. However, there are steps you can take with your at-home skin care products that will really make a difference.
One of my favorite at home products is an oil cleanser and my absolute favorite is Tatcha Pure Camellia Cleansing Oil. Not only is this makeup remover hydrating, but the camellia oil melts away impurities and tackles hard to remove waterproof makeup, plus it works for all skin types.
Keeping your lips supple and soft, especially in the winter months is tough. My favorite lip treatment is Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. I literally use this every night and I also carry it in my kit for my brides and clients.
My all-time favorite moisturizer is Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream- it does wonders for my combination skin and I use it in my kit, as well! I’ve been obsessed with this moisturizer and recommend it to all my friends and clients.
Another favorite to combat dry winter skin and keep it soft and supple is using Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide Capsules which increase moisture and are anti-aging. These little capsules are the perfect amount of product and I love the way it smooths and softens the skin. Pro tip- after massaging into the skin, use a quartz roller over the top of the serum to lift and tighten as well as help with puffiness.
A translucent powder, without a flashback, is a staple to keep the shine away and complete your look. Two of my favorites include cult classic Laura Mercier and Too Faced Born This Way Ethereal Translucent Powder.
Another all-time favorite for men and women alike is Soap Brows. I absolutely love using this product for taming those crazy brows and getting the volume you want. Almost everyone I use this product on immediately orders it after our session.
These are just a few tips and products that really make a difference in your skincare/makeup regimen and would be a great addition to any makeup bag! Its so important to get your skin ready for your wedding day and prepare ahead of time. I think the most important thing we can do for ourselves is take some time to really pamper yourself and relieve some stress. Invest in yourself a little more if you can and continue to be thankful for each and every day, and every amazing experience we get to enjoy. Cheers to all the Brides and Grooms, we can’t wait to celebrate with you!
Love to you all!
Carina
