Kate and Kenny met freshman year of college at a party through mutual friends in 2009. After years of friendship and flirtation, Kenny asked Kate out on a date in fall of 2012. They spent a few weeks going on dates before he asked her to be his girlfriend at the Boston Aquarium on New Year’s Eve 2012.
Kenny proposed on September 6, 2016, on Seabrooke Beach during hurricane Matthew. It took a little coaxing to get Kate to stay at the beach house and get her out to the beach with bad weather, so Kenny’s father tried to help Kate want to go to the beach, so he said: “there’s a dead shark on the beach go check it out!” It has now become the family joke, but it worked!
On the beach, Kate did not find a dead shark of course but did find the words “love you” written in the sand. That’s when Kenny got down on one knee to ask Kate to spend the rest of her life with him. He then surprised her with her parents there to watch the whole thing, and the night was celebrated with both sets of parents at dinner!
The rest… was history.
